When the hashtag #BlackLivesMatter begin in 2012, not many
people thought it would be as big as it is today, but it gained following
because more and more black lives were taken by white police man in the UnitedStates of America (USA) and the law did very little to punish the wrong doers,
which made a few worried because in the constitution everyone is equal.
The #BlackLivesMatter has been so controversial that during
the 2016 Presidential candidate debate of USA, Hillary Clinton and Bernie
Sanders were asked if black lives matter or all life’s matter. This was every
important because black people in America make up 13% of the population, and
their votes are important. Hilary Clinton could have quoted prominent black
people or spoke as if she was really touched by incidents so she can gain
support from the black community and those who support it. Her Public Relations
Practitioners should take her to black communities and let her kiss black
babies, she should engage with other races like Latin and White people so she
shows unity for America, not just the voters who can make her president.
Brands and #BlackLivesMatter
In my lectures, we are taught about brands, the power they
have on social media and the influence they have on people. When gay marriages
were approved in America, Facebook created a hue profile maker, allowing people
on Facebook to edit their profiles pictures with a rainbow hue but when black
lives matter movement was trending none of that was seen, even black twitter
never received support from twitter and all the tweets from #BlackLivesMatter
are user generated.
One of the world’s biggest brand’s, Google, used its doodle
to bring awareness to #BlackLivesMatter, through a high school contest called
Doodle 4 Google. Brands do not assist hashtags like #BlackLivesMatter put these
movements a step back from the rest,
this only makes it stronger because users who generate the content and make the
hashtag trend become more united and stronger, people have changed their
rainbow profile pictures but still #BlackLivesMatter still trends andinfluences.

Public Relations needs to do more
Public Relations and Communicators need to do more like the
following:
·
Promote hashtags which have a lot of user
generated content so those publics are readily available when they are needed
to assist the communicator or the practitioner
·
Communicate to top management in organizations
to assist movements without looking for financial gain, to be there for people
and communities in need.

I fully support Black Lives Matter because it campaigns against violance towards black people and organizes protests around the deaths of black people in killings by law enforcement officers, police brutality, and racial inequality
